For thousands of years, honey has been known for its healing qualities. The first written record of honey as a wound-healing agent dates back to 2600-2200 BCE, where it is mentioned in an ancient Egyptian trauma manual currently referred to as the Edwin Smith Papyrus.
Honey has anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used as a wound dressing to promote rapid and improved healing. These effects are due to honey’s antibacterial action, secondary to its high acidity, osmotic effect, anti-oxidant content, and hydrogen peroxide content. The healing property of honey is due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection. Its immunomodulatory property is relevant to wound repair too.
Please note because our products retain the pollen, you will notice cinnamon-like spots in the product. This is a good thing!
